“Toy Story” was a revolutionary film and one of the top animated movies of its time. It changed animated movies forever, and there are countless films today that wouldn’t have existed if “Toy Story” hadn’t been created.
Here are 4 things freelance animators can learn from the Toy Story movie:

1. Grab opportunities
If there's an opportunity to do something new and completely different from what's ever been done before - go for it. Be the first to do it. Make history. Try to take on projects out of your comfort zone. This will make your portfolio stand out and help you grow as an animator.

2. Keep developing your skillset
Toy Story is proof that it's always wise for freelance animators to expand their knowledge. Cover all your bases while also improving your skillset. Eventually, your client base will grow, and your services will become more valuable and desirable to potential clients.

3. Use your existing skillset to your advantage
If you end up doing a project for a client where you're using a style that's still relatively new to you, take a page from the book of Toy Story's creators and play around with different elements like lighting to make your work look excellent even if it's your first attempt at something challenging.

4. Always strive to do better
Just like how animators learned to effectively animate specific details like fabric and fur, freelance animators should always strive to make their next project even better than the previous one. Reflect from your experiences and treat every project as an opportunity to improve.
