The Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film is given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), since the year 1931–32, to the present. The Academy defines short as being not more than 40 minutes, including all credits. Here are the award-winning animated short films from 2011 to 2019.

Award-Winning Animated Short Films (2011 - 2019)

1. The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore

A 2011 animated short film directed by William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg. It was created using computer animation, miniatures, and traditional hand-drawn techniques. After winning over a dozen film festivals, the film was awarded the Best Animated Short Film at the 84th Academy Awards.

2. Paperman

Paperman is an American black-and-white computer-cel animated romantic comedy short film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and directed by John Kahrs. The short blends traditional and computer animation, and won both the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 85th Academy Awards and the Annie Award for Best Animated Short Subject at the 40th Annie Awards.

3. Mr. Hublot

A French animated short film by Laurent Witz and Alexandre Espigares. The story is about an obsessive-compulsive disorder suffering man who came across a robot dog that us about to be crushed like a piece of garbage. He saves it and makes it his new pet. Mr. Hublot won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 86th Academy Awards on 2 March 2014.

4. Feast

Feast is an American 2D animated romantic comedy short film written and directed by Patrick Osborne and produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The short won both an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 87th Academy Awards and the Annie Award for Best Animated Short Subject at the 42nd Annie Awards.

5. Bear Story

Bear Story is a Chilean animated short film directed by Gabriel Osorio Vargas. The story is inspired by the director's grandfather, Leopoldo Osorio, who, after the Chilean coup d'etat, was imprisoned for two years and then forced to live in exile for the duration of the dictatorship. The film won Best Animated Short Film at the 88th Academy Awards.

6. Piper

A computer-animated short film produced by Pixar Animation Studio. It was written and directed by Alan Barillaro. The short film involves a hungry baby sandpiper learning to overcome her fear of water. Piper won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 89th Academy Awards, becoming the first Pixar animated short to win the award since For the Birds in 2002.

7. Dear Basketball

Dear Basketball is a 2017 American animated film written and narrated by Kobe Bryant and directed and animated by Glen Keane, with music by John Williams. The short film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 90th Academy Awards, marking the first Oscar win for any professional athlete, as well as the first Oscar win for Glen Keane, a veteran Disney animator.

8. Bao

Bao is an American computer-animated short film written and directed by Domee Shi and produced by Pixar Animation Studios. The film is about an aging and lonely Chinese-Canadian mother, suffering from empty nest syndrome, who receives an unexpected second chance at motherhood when she makes a steamed bun (baozi) that comes to life. The film won the Oscar for the Best Animated Short Film at the 91st Academy Awards.

9. Hair Love

A 2019 American animated short film written and directed by Matthew A. Cherry and co-produced with Karen Rupert Toliver. It follows the story of a father who learns to do his daughter's hair for the first time. Hair Love won Best Animated Short Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.
