Before we delve into the invaluable chapters that make up this course, it's crucial to understand a little more of the significance and rarity of the Object Animator's Toolbox.

Launched on the Graphy platform by Michael Huang, this course initially came with a price tag of $19.99. It debuted on August 21, 2020, and featured unique characters like Grandfather Clock and Metronome, who were crafted exclusively for this educational journey.

In a world where quality animation courses often come with hefty price tags, finding a course of this caliber at such an affordable rate was nothing short of a miracle for aspiring animators. The course was so well-crafted that it became a hit, offering a comprehensive guide to animation through its meticulously designed chapters.

However, all good things must come to an end. The course was archived by several users after Graphy underwent a significant restructuring in early 2021. This restructuring led to the removal of several courses, including the Object Animator's Toolbox.

While the course may no longer be officially available, a Google Drive archive containing lessons 1 to 6, along with the trailer, has been preserved for posterity.

It's worth noting that this archive may not be available indefinitely. Given the fleeting nature of online content, there's no guarantee that these invaluable lessons will always be accessible for free. Therefore, if you're an aspiring animator looking to benefit from this treasure trove of knowledge, now is the time to dive in and absorb as much as you can!

The Six Pillars of Object Animator's Toolbox

1. How Things Move

The first chapter, released on August 21, 2020, serves as the cornerstone for understanding the physics of animation.

Grasping how objects move in real life is not just a basic skill; it's an essential one that can significantly improve the realism and fluidity of your animations. This chapter is indispensable for anyone who wants to master the basics of object animation.

Understanding the principles of motion—such as gravity, friction, and inertia—can help you create animations that resonate with viewers because they adhere to the laws of physics.

This skill in the Object Animator's Toolbox is particularly useful in projects that require a high level of realism, like simulations or educational videos.

2. Mouth Movements: Bringing Characters to Life

The second chapter, released on August 29, 2020, zeroes in on the art of animating mouth movements.

This skill is vital for making your characters appear more lifelike and engaging. Learning how to sync mouth movements with audio can make your animations stand out in a crowded field.

The ability to animate mouth movements accurately can be especially beneficial in character-driven stories or dialog-heavy scenes.

3. Facial Expressions: The Window to the Soul

Unveiled on September 9, 2020, this chapter dives deep into the art of animating facial expressions.

Mastering this skill can add a layer of emotional depth to your characters, making them more relatable and emotionally resonant.

This skill is particularly useful in storytelling, where capturing the nuanced emotions of characters can make or break the viewer's engagement. Whether you're working on a short film, an advertisement, or a video game, the ability to convey emotion through facial expressions is invaluable.

4. Body Movement: The Art of Kinetics

The fourth chapter, released on September 16, 2020, is a comprehensive guide on how to animate complex body movements.

Whether it's a simple wave, a complicated dance routine, or a high-octane action sequence, understanding the mechanics of body movement is crucial to creating compelling animations

This skill is useful in projects that require intricate choreography or action sequences. For instance, let’s imagine you're animating a sports scene. Understanding how the human body moves because you followed this chapter of the Object Animator's Toolbox will help you create more realistic and dynamic animations.

5. Walk Cycles: The Rhythm of Motion

The fifth chapter, released on October 5, 2020, focuses on the intricacies of animating walk cycles.

A well-executed walk cycle can add a layer of realism to your animations, making them more believable and engaging. Walk cycles are the bread and butter of many animation projects, from video games to feature films, making this chapter of the Object Animator's Toolbox one of the most valuable.

Whether you're animating a character walking down the street in a short film or creating a crowd scene in a video game, a well-crafted walk cycle is indispensable.

6. Camera & Background: Setting the Stage

The final chapter of the Object Animator's Toolbox, released on October 19, 2020, elucidates the importance of camera angles and backgrounds in animation.

Learning how to effectively use these elements can significantly elevate your storytelling and make your animations more captivating. The camera is your audience's eye into the world you've created, and the background sets the stage for your characters.

This skill is crucial in any project that involves storytelling. For example, if you're working on a suspenseful scene, the right camera angle can add tension, while the appropriate background can set the mood. Understanding how to manipulate these elements can transform your animations from good to great.
